About
Spotted Hen Gardens sells nursery flowers, herbs, vegetables, fruits, eggs, and vanilla extract. We are located in Hillsborough, New Hampshire. Please note that we are licensed by the NH Department of Agriculture (#1644). We ship plants within New Hampshire, and to neighboring states Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
How Do I Order?
We accept pre-orders of plants for the next growing season through our website and in person. Payment is due at the time of order. We start plants in our greenhouses in February and your plants will be ready for you to pick up by March through May. Eggs and vanilla extract are available year-round.
Responsible Growing Methods
We do not use plastic growing containers in our operations. Seeds are started using soil blockers, which is a metal tool that forms wet soil into growing cubes, eliminating the need for plastic cell packs.
Seedlings are then transplanted into biodegradable, compostable recycled paper pots. These 4" pots are the containers in which plants are sold. If the plant grows larger while in our care, we will find a suitable recycled plastic container, but we hope to sell all of our seedlings before they reach the size where a larger container is needed.
Seedlings are marked with a water-resistant paper. We find this is the least expensive, least wasteful, and most eco-friendly method of growing seedlings.
We order our seeds throughout the year from many seed wholesalers with a focus on organic growing and eco-friendly methods.
